New Photos

I have know taking some new Photos that I might use in my Final Music Magazine. I will have a look at them and see if they look good in my Music Magazine. I am not saying that these will be the ones, and will be the final images, I just wanted to try out some ideas and see what works and looks good.

First Set of Images

I have asked my model to hold the guitar as if he were playing it, but I still wanted him to interact with the camera. I only wanted the top half of the models body so I used a mid shot to get the guitar and also the face in. As you can see I have experimented with different facial expressions to see what looked good. I was thinking that this kind of image could be used on the front cover as a mini picture of a side act.

Second set of images

I need a new Front cover main image so decided to take some new ones. I asked for the model to hold a acoustic guitar over his shoulder and to look directly into the camera. I also wanted the model to be almost leaning back, slanted a bit. I think that this again helps to add in more attitude which is what my target audience wanted. Again I used a mid shot so that most of the body was included. I experimented by asking my model to stand on different sides to see which looked better.

Third Set of images

I decided to take some pictures of the model outside, this meant that I had a background that I could actually use in my Music Magazine. These images were ideas for the double page spread. I had the model standing in different positions and looking different ways. Although not all of the images were in focus I think that this is a good idea and I think that I will retake some of the images and see if they look better.

I will have a look and see if the images look good in the Magazine and if not I will take some more.

Final Photo's

I am going to be changing most or all of the Photos that featured on my rough cut. This is because one of the changes that were suggested to me was that I needed to have more attitude in my pictures. Also I feel like my pictures weren't of the highest quality and I think they could be improved massively. I will explain the kinds of pictures and why I want to use this. From my target research I found that six images are appropriate for my Music Magazine.

Main Image- Front Cover:

I have decided that I should use a Mid-Shot for this. This is because I feel it is a good shot that shows a lot of the models body but also it shows detail. This means that I can add in attitude and more detail to my images.

Small Image (2)- Front Cover

I have decided to use two different Models for the two different photos. This will help to add more variety to the Magazine. I will have them posing with musical instruments, this is because that is a very conventional thing to have on a front cover. Also it looks very good and I could easily add in attitude on these images.

Main Image- Content Page

I'm going to use a Low angle mid shot for this image. This is something that I saw on my research and I thought that it looked very good. I'm going to try and get an image with a background because I think that is something that is conventional on Content pages.

Main Image- Double page spread

I will have the main artist (person on the main front cover image) posing to the camera. This is because I think that this is something that will look good and introduce the main article. Also having the main artist who features in the article itself it will help to subject the whole of the double page spread. It is definitely a conventional thing also.

Side Image- Double Page Spread

I will have the Main artist in his musical surroundings, not looking at the camera. This is because I want to show people what the artist gets up to and what kind of things he does. I will do this by using a long shot which will allow some of the musical background and props to be shown.

Update

Hi, I am going to be explaining what I am going to be doing for the next couple of days. This is so that you know what I am going to be doing.

The first thing that I need to do is make all of the changes that were suggested to me. This is because these are going to make the Music Magazine better. I need to change things such as the colour, the layout and also I need to decide on what kind of images I am going to be using for the Magazine. This is because most of the images are of a lower quality and I need to make sure that they are as conventional as possible and that they have enough attitude.

I am also going to rewrite my Article. This is because it wasn't the best possible piece that I could have produced so I think that it should be made a lot better and stronger. I think a good Article will help to make the double page spread a lot better and stronger.

Overall just redesigning the whole layout of the magazine is my biggest priority, I need to make sure it follows conventions and also I need to make sure that it looks the best quality possible. I will update the Blog with the changes that I make.

Research feed back

I conducted the research by asking ten different people the questions that were on the survey. Once I had there feedback I was able to put the results into charts. I will know share with you the charts and the results.

How much would you pay for a Music Magazine?

This is a pie chart explaining how much people would wish to pay for a Music Magazine. The options were £1.00, £1.50, £2.00, £2.50, £3.00 and £3.50+. The colours on the chart are yellow is £2.50. This is the biggest segment with about 38% of all votes. This is then followed by £2.00 which is the grey segment. This racked up about 26% of votes. After this the amount of votes dropped for the other options. £1.50 was next with 13% of votes. Followed by £3.00 with 11%. Finally £3.50+ and £1.00 came in with the smallest percentages.
From doing this target audience research I found that I should price the music Magazine at £2.50. This is because it was the price that most of my target audience thought was reasonable and the best.

What age do you think the Music Magazine should be aimed for?

This is a bar chart explaining what age range the Music Magazine should be aimed for. I did it in a bar chart because it meant that you could see the age people voted for easily and also you could see how many people voted. Know only two of the options were actually voted for. These were 15-19 and also 20-24. Know I think that these are two very good ages so I think that I am going to just combine them so that the Magazine should be aimed at 15-24 year old. This is because five people voted for each option.

How many images would you want to see in a Music Magazine?

This is a question to try and find out the average number of images that people would want to see in the Music Magazine. This is because I wasn't sure if I was using enough images in my Music Magazine and I wanted to make sure how much people thought would be a good number to have in the Music Magazine. As you can see the options went from one all the way up to eight plus. The number that got the highest amount of votes was seven.
So from this bit of target audience research I found that on average people felt that there should be at least seven images in the Music Magazine.

What kind of images would you want to see?

This was a question that I presented on a Bar chart. I wanted to know what kind of image people would want to see on, probably the front cover making it the main image. I gave four different options. These were firstly Main artist posing, Main artist looking away from camera, double act and finally double act posing. As you can see my target audience really thought that one of these ideas would work the best.
My target audience chose the option of Main artist posing alone. This means that I now know what image I will use on my front cover.

Did you enjoy filing out this questionnaire?

This was just a summary question. I wanted to know if people thought the questionnaire was good and worth filling out. This is because it will have meant that the questions I asked were valid and worth answering. I didn't record it on the pie chart but blue was Yes and orange was No. This means that the vast majority of people thought that the questionnaire was worth doing and that the questions were worth filling out.

Target audience research

I am going to ask some of my target audience some questions that will help me make my final Music Magazine better. To do this I made a survey with some simple questions on. I will ask some people to fill out the survey meaning that I am getting some target audience research. The people that I am asking are all from my target audience. This means that what they say will be good information because it is things that they obviously think that is important to go on the Music Magazine. The survey is as followed:

This is what it Looks like when one of the surveys has been filled out:

This is a picture of someone actually filling out the questionnaire:

Target Audience Feedback

Changes

I have know been instructed some changes that I should make to my Music Magazine. These are things that were suggested to me by some of my peers and teacher's. It it good that these people told me them because they are people that are part of my target audience and are people that read Music Magazine's regularly.

Changes for Front Cover:

  •  Use more interesting Font's
  • Use more varied Font's (Fonts that suit genre)
  • Fill the blank space (consider layout and the placement)
  • Put something near bar code to make it look more in place
  • Need to add a price on the front cover
  • Apostrophe on Bowie part
  • Date and issue number need to be on front cover

Changes Content Page

  • More interesting Font's
  • Background colour ("Not much content pages have the same background colour as the front cover)
  • Fill in the blank space
  • "Font's need to sing"
  • More attitude ion picture's need more of a story
  • More Photo's

Double Page Spread:

  • Right side of the double page spread feels empty
  • Consider where the middle would be
  • Longer article
  • A bit too "White"
  • Text over half way line
  • Think about the layout

Rough Cut

I have know finished the rough cut of the Music Magazine. This rough cut included the pictures that I had previously shown and also it includes the final text, the main story on the double page spread and also a colour scheme. I am know going to show all of the rough cuts and I will talk briefly about them and explain where I had my influence from.

Rough Cut Front Cover:

This is the rough cut for the Front Cover. Know the first thing that I think is noticeable is the colour scheme. I took inspiration from all of the Mojo Magazine I looked at. This is because they usually use a three colour scheme on there Magazine. As you can see the three colours that I used were purple, red and white. These were the three main colours. I also used a bit of black because every other Magazine I looked at included Black somewhere. You might also notice that the main image is the biggest and covers a lot of the page. I also had it so that his head just covered the title. This is again something that I saw in all the Mojo Magazines I had looked at. The Music Magazine is called Dynamic. This was a decision that I made and I like the name. The second image is also on the page. It is a bit smaller because it is only a side image. I put it against a red background so that it didn't look to out of place. You will see that I have filled the front cover with information and also I have put the bar code that I designed using Photoshop in. Finally the free CD was inspired from all of the Mojo magazines I had looked at. This is because I thought it looked good and was also something that is very conventional.

Content Page Rough Cut:

This is my rough cut content page. As you can see it follows the main colour scheme of purple, red and white. I also added the bold colour of Black because it stands out against the purple well. Know the content page main image is located on the right hand side of the page. This image I think looks very good for the content page. This is because the model is almost looking down on the audience, making them want to read. This is something that I took inspiration from the Mojo Magazines. One of them had a model looking down and I liked this. You can see that in my research. As you can see I filled some stories in where I had left the space in my Hand drawn design. Those stories are of things that are in my Magazine. You might notice that in the very bottom right hand corner, there is the page number and it has the name of the Magazine (Dynamic) and then the number. This is again something I saw on the Mojo Magazines and I liked it. The biggest piece of text on the actual content page itself is the title Content. This is something that is important because people need to have a clear identification that it is a content page. I also took inspiration from a lot of the Mojo Magazines I looked at when it comes to the quote at the bottom. This is coloured with a white font with a red background. This is something that I think is important because it follows the colour scheme that I have decided to use. I thought that I needed to use a quote because it's something that looked good on the Magazines I was looking at.

Rough cut Double page Spread:

This is the rough cut of the Double Page Spread. This follows the colour scheme, but a bit differently. There is no purple located on the page and there is a bit more Black on. The first main bit of black is found on the main image. This is because I have made it more black and white following that theme. Also the main background colour is White. I have highlighted a lot of things in the colour red. This is because firstly it is part of my colour scheme but also, red stands out very well against the white. Making it very powerful and look really good. As you can see one of the things that is highlighted is the at the bottom of the third paragraph. This is a quote from the article itself. Again this is something that I saw in the analyse research I had previously done. Also the image is against a red background. The main image is Black and White which is something that I saw in my research. Another thing that I saw in my research that I have done is the way that the image goes over the half way line. The title is coloured red and is under the image. I also have a drop capital at the start. This is coloured red and is something that I think looks really good. The page number is in the bottom right hand corner and has dynamic written in front. This is something that I saw on the Mojo Magazine. I have made it so that there are three columns the same size and then one bigger one above the second image. I think this looks neat and accurate.

Photo Manipulation

As you saw in my last post, I took all of the photos. I took quite a lot and then narrowed down the ones that I wanted to use. These were the best ones and the ones that I thought looked the best. But that inst the best the photos can be. I am going to make the images better by doing some photo manipulation on them. I am going to edit them to make them better and better for the magazine.

Double Page Spread Image:

This was the image before any Photoshop had been done to it. I am know going to show you the after Photoshop image and I will explain what I have done.

This is the image once some Photo manipulation had been done. The main thing that I did was I cut the image out from the background. This was because I didn't want the background in the photo, I just wanted the model. I also added some saturation to the image. This was to make it look better.

Front Cover main image:

This was the best photo I took for the front cover. I am going to show you the final photo after Photoshop. I will then explain what I did differently.

This is the final photo. Again the main difference is the fact that the image has been cut from the background. This is because again I wanted the image to have no background when it is on the magazine. I want it to be just the image. I also added some saturation and finally I cropped the image. This meant that it looked more zoomed and also got rid of needless background.

Content Page:

This is the Content page image that I picked. I am going to show you the photo manipulation that I did on this image and I will explain what I did.

Again like the other two images the first thing that I did was remove the background. This is for the same reason, because I don't want the background in, I want it to be just the image against no background on the Music Magazine. You might also notice the model doesn't look as pale. I added some saturation so that it added some more colour. I think this made it look better. I also cropped the image so that it was more zoomed in.

Double page spread main:

This is the double page spread main image when it was taken. I am know going to show the photo manipulation I did to make it better for my Music Magazine.

This is the photo once I had done some Photoshop on it. The first thing I did was changed the colour to black and white. This is because when doing my research I saw a double page spread main image which was black and white. I really liked this so I did it here. I then added a Tint. This helped to add a bit of colour and affect.

Double page spread:

The final image is the double page spread image. I am going to show you it after I had done some Photoshop on it. I will also explain what it is exactly I did.

This is the image once I had finished photo manipulating it. As you can probably tell the first thing I did was removed the background. This is because I wanted this picture with no background, only the model. I also put the brightness up meaning that the image looked brighter than before. I added some saturation to make the image look better and also cropped it so that I could see the image better.

Final Photoshop images:

These are the final images, all photo manipulated and ready to go on my Blog. By doing this photo manipulation it has made the images better and made them look better.

Images

I have taken a lot of images that will feature on my Music Magazine. I used a total of two different models. I took quite a lot of pictures and I will decide which ones I am going to keep and use on my actual Music Magazine. The images are based on the sketches I drew on the hand drawn designs.

Content Page:

These are the pictures that I took for my Content Page. On my hand drawn design I wanted someone cross handed, looking down using a Mid shot.

1:

2:

3:

I have decided to use Image 3 from the three different ones. They were all very similar and the thing that made me want to use this image is because I like the way that the model has his head tilted.

Front Cover:

1:

2:

I have decided to use image 2 instead of 1. This is because I thought that the facial expression looked a little more genuine and overall I think it was a better picture.

Front Cover Main Image:

 1:

 2:

 3:

I decided to use Image 2. This is because I preferred him standing and facing the Left side rather than the right side. Also I think that the other left sided image is a bit too far out and not close enough. I wanted the shot to be a Medium close up and I thought that number two looked the most like one.

Double page spread:

1:

 2:
  3:

These are pictures of the main person holding a guitar. One of these images will go on the double page spread. I took three different ones in three different poses. I think the one that I like the best is number 2. This is because I think the position he is standing in is the most conventional. Also that position is the one that I had originally thought would look good.

Double Page Spread main image:

1:

2:

3:

These are the pictures on my main model. One of theses pictures are going to be on the double page spread as a main image. I took three different ones from different distances. I think overall the best image is number 1. This is because I think that the distance is good but also I like the facial expression. Also I like it because you cant see anything below the models belly.

Pictures chosen:

These are the pictures that I have picked to use in my Music Magazine. I took a few but I have narrowed these ones down as the best. I will do some Photoshop on them to make them look even better.
